How Firstlight began

Firstlight began with a question. In a country where a woman dies every two minutes from preventable causes in pregnancy and childbirth, what would it take to make every baby’s arrival a moment of intention — not uncertainty?

The answer came from an old and familiar story. Three wise travellers, guided by a star — the first light in the sky — opened their treasures to bring carefully chosen gifts to a child newly arrived in the world. They did not come empty-handed, and they did not come carelessly. They came with gifts chosen with thought, and with love.

That is the idea Firstlight is built on. Every box we make is a wise welcome — a curated set of beautiful, useful things for a baby’s first weeks. And for every box sold, one is given to a Nigerian mother who needs it. Because the wisest gift is the one that helps another mother see her child take their first breath.
